Ali Al Shaali: The step helps stimulate productivity and efficiency in the workplace
Dubai:, 21 June , 2010: The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation has started distributing a number of its publications to different cultura
l and government entities in the UAE. The distributed titles include both authored and translated books published through the Foundation’s two flagship programmes Oktub (Write) and Tarjem (Translate).
The Book distribution project involves a number of initiatives such as the “Manager’s Briefcase”, “Book of the Week”, “Tabadul” (Arabic for book exchange) and “Tahadu” (Arabic for gift giving). This initiative comes in line with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation’s mission to support the production, acquisition and dissemination of Arabic knowledge sources in the region.
The “Manager’s Briefcase” is a briefcase distributed to senior staff in government departments. Each briefcase contains nine books of the most recent and specialized titles in the area of management issued by international leading institutions such as Harvard. Almost 2000 copies will be distributed in the first phase to 222 senior staff in different government departments in Dubai. The list of departments includes Dubai Economic Council, Dubai Chamber and Dubai Land.
“Book of the Week” involves sending weekly summaries of a selection of “Oktub” and “Tarjem” books electronically. Employees can then ask for hard copies of the books they are interested in. The initial phase of the project has already started at Dubai Chamber, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Courts and the Architectural Heritage Department.
“Tabadul” is another initiative which helps facilitate and enhance knowledge and book exchange between the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation and other academic and cultural entities in the UAE. So
far, the Foundation has exchanged books with Juma al-Majid Cultural & Heritage Centre, Zayed Centre for Heritage and History and the library of Architectural Heritage at Dubai Municipality. More than 100 books have been exchanged so far.
Through the “Tahadu” initiative, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation provides universities and colleges in Dubai with lists of the books published by the Foundation and which may be of interest to the students as well as faculty members. The Foundation has so far joined hands with Zayed University, Islamic and Arabic Studies College and the Higher Colleges of Technology to provide the needed books.
Ali Al Shaali, Director of Knowledge Production at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation said: “The book distribution initiative aims to hone the managerial expertise and skills of senior staff members at government departments and entities in Dubai by providing them with the latest and most important titles in the field of management. This step will help stimulate productivity and efficiency in the workplace”
“Through its “Tarjem” programme, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation seeks to enrich the Arabic library with books that support sustainable development in the Arab World. Priority is given to translating management books. That’s why senior staff members at the Dubai government departments are the first beneficiaries of this project.” Al Shaali added.
