Bustan Al Qusas Project
Bustan Al Qusas is a capacity building initiative which supports the professional development of teachers of Arabic to children while, at the same time, creating innovative and excellent didactic materials for the KG & Primary classroom. The capacity building process focuses, via 80 hours of practical Workshops, on the virtuous cycle between professional development and materials creation. Participating teachers create original stories and other texts – and related, cross-curricular lesson plans - for delivery of Arabic to children, aged 4-11 years old.
Thus, teachers provide evidence of their professional development by developing quality classroom materials, and, as a result of using these materials, their classroom practice necessarily improves. This in turn, within guided workshops, leads to the creation of improved stories (which relate to local Arabic contexts and local Arabic culture) and then to even better lesson plans.
During the Workshop Phase, participating teachers produce sufficient classroom materials for a complete year’s teaching of Arabic to children. Bustan Al Qusas materials support, supplement & inform (but do not replace) existing official textbooks.
