Who qualifies for the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Fellowship?
The programme offers scholarships to qualified candidates who demonstrate leadership, dedication and commitment to the Arab World's human and socio-economic progress. Nationals of the 22 member countries of the League of Arab States are eligible to apply.
How can I apply for the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Fellowship?
• Secure acceptance to one of the Foundation’s international partner universities
• Have a minimum of two years’ work experience
• Submit a completed application form through the Foundation’s website
• Participate in an interview with the Programme advisory panel, if required
What is the deadline to apply for a Fellowship?
Deadline for Fellows applications:
Spring semester: November 30
Fall semester: June 30
What does Fellowship cover?
The Fellowship covers tuition fees, books, annual economy return flight, monthly stipend for housing and living as well as insurance for the duration of study. Amounts are to be disclosed once a student has been accepted.
How long is the Fellowship valid for?
The Fellowship is valid for the duration of the degree programme, as stipulated by the University.
Will the Foundation pay for summer classes?
Fellows will receive their monthly stipends throughout the academic year. Each Fellow is encouraged to find paid internships to cover their expenses during the summer.
How are payments made?
Tuition fees and insurance are paid directly to the University. The monthly stipend, travel and book allowances are paid directly to the Fellow.
Can I apply to Universities which are not on the partner list?
The partner Universities are the only universities which you can apply to. These Universities have been chosen for their excellence in the programmes available and for the quality of education provided. Applications for other Universities will be automatically disregarded.
Can I apply for degree programmes which are not included on the website?
The courses available are the only courses a Fellow can apply to. Applications for other colleges or courses will be automatically disregarded.
Do I need to have working experience? If yes, how many years?
Working experience is essential for the attainment of a Fellowship; a minimum of two years of relevant experience is required.
Does the Fellowship cover special English classes?
The Fellowship does not cover conditional acceptances into any programme. Fellows should secure unconditional offers to the programme before applying to the Fellowship. As a result, English proficiency is a must and language classes will not be covered.
Does the Fellowship cover pre-degree preparatory classes?
If preparatory courses are required by the University, it will be covered by the Fellowship. If not, then it is the Fellow’s responsibility to cover costs for the extra courses.
How do I maintain the Fellowship?
The Fellow must maintain an above average GPA through the course of study.
What is expected of me upon graduation?
It is expected that the Fellow returns to the region within two months of graduation and that the Fellow take up work in one of the 22 countries of the League of Arab States for a minimum of two years. The Fellow will be contractually obligated to do so.
Can I work with international companies/organizations if they are in the Arab region?
The Foundation has no preference in regards to this matter as long as the organization is functioning in one of the 22 countries of the League of Arab States and the fellow is stationed in one of these countries.
Can I change universities after being accepted into a programme?
Once the Fellow enrols, s/he cannot change courses or Universities.
Can I study at any campus?
The Fellow must study at the approved campus for the University as per the information on the website. Distance learning or different campus study is not acceptable.
Can I change universities after being accepted for a Fellowship but before starting the course?
If the change is to another approved programme with an approved partner University and the request is received by the Foundation before the start of the programme, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation may approve the request at its discretion.
Does the “Fellows” scholarship cover travel expenses of a companion?
The Foundation covers the travel expenses for the student only.
Does the Foundation offer any programmes that sponsor studies at the PhD level?
The Foundation does not currently sponsor studies at the PhD level.
Does the Foundation offer any programmes that sponsor undergraduate degrees?
The programme available now is for a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy and Finance. The Foundation does not currently sponsor undergraduate degrees.
Does the Foundation offer scholarships for studying other subjects such as medicine?
The programme available now is for a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy and Finance only.
Are the partner universities accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education in the UAE?
All the partner universities, including the international ones, are accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education.
Does the Foundation cover the expenses of preparatory English classes requested by the university before joining the “Fellows” programme?
The Foundation does not currently sponsor foundation or preparatory classes. The student should have an unconditional acceptance to the university to be considered for a scholarship.
